Two Rhode Island residents arraigned, issued bail, after 3-year-old son dies in apparent drowning
Two people were arraigned on Friday after a young Rhode Island boy died in an apparent drowning.
According to information released by police on November 10th, 2023, on August 28th, 2023, at approximately 11:37 a.m., officers of the Warwick Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Gorham Avenue for the report of 3-year-old David Holloway III possibly drowning. Warwick Fire Department arrived on scene and attempted to resuscitate the boy. He was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital and pronounced deceased at 12:42 p.m.
The Warwick Police Department Detective Division investigated the incident and subsequently arrested 31-year-old Kaitlyn Nolan of Warwick and charged her with 5 counts of cruelty to or neglect of a child.
On November 9th, 2023, Nolan was presented before a bail commissioner and was released on $5,000 with surety.
32-year-old David Holloway II of Warwick was arrested and charged with 2 counts of child endangerment, 5 counts of cruelty to or neglect of a child, 1 count of unnecessary cruelty to animals resulting in death, and 1 count of unnecessary cruelty to animals.
On November 10th, 2023, Holloway was arraigned in District Court and bail was set at $50,000 personal recognizance along with special conditions recommended by the RI Department of Children, Youth and Families.
According to WJAR 10, the investigations show that Holloway had left his 13-year-old son with special needs in charge of the now deceased 3-year-old. Police described the conditions inside the home as deplorable with trash, clothes, maggots and fleas. Police also found approximately 40 pot plants with chemicals in the basement.
The case was moved to superior court and the pair was arraigned Friday in Kent County Superior Court where they both pled not guilty.
Holloway was issued a $50,000 surety bond with a no contact order. A pretrial conference has been scheduled for January.
Nolan had 2 counts of child endangerment, 1 count of unnecessary cruelty to animals resulting in death, and 1 count of unnecessary cruelty to animals added to the 5 counts of cruelty to or neglect of a child. She was issued a $5,000 surety bond with a no contact order. A pretrial conference has been scheduled for January.
