Two Providence men arrested, arraigned, after 8 kilos of cocaine, $38,000 in cash, press equipment seized

The Rhode Island State Police today announced that on Tuesday, members of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, and the United States Postal Inspection Service, assisted by members of the Providence Police Department Violent Crime Task Force arrested two men suspected of distributing large quantities of cocaine. During this investigation, over 8 kilograms of cocaine, narcotics distribution materials, kilogram press equipment and over $38,000 in cash was seized. 

This seizure and arrests were the result of a collaborative investigation by the Rhode Island State Police HIDTA Task Force and the United States Postal Inspection Service into individuals suspected of distributing large amounts of cocaine. At the conclusion of this investigation, court-authorized search warrants were executed on Hawkins Street, Providence, Rhode Island and Cheshire Street, Providence, Rhode Island with the assistance of the Providence Police Department Violent Crime Task Force.

31-year-old Aneurys Javier Santana of Providence, Rhode Island was arrested and arraigned on Possession of Cocaine in Excess of 1 kilogram, Possession with Intent to Deliver of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance – Cocaine, and Controlled Substance Conspiracy.

26-year-old Derian Moreno Herrera of Providence, Rhode Island was arrested and arraigned on Possession of Cocaine in Excess of 1 kilogram, Possession with Intent to Deliver of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance – Cocaine, and Controlled Substance Conspiracy.

Both men were held without bail.

The Rhode Island State Police High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force is comprised of members from the Rhode Island State Police, Providence Police Department, Cranston Police Department, North Providence Police Department, Lincoln Police Department, Middletown Police Department, Bristol Police Department, Johnston Police Department, DEA Providence District Office, and Rhode Island National Guard Counterdrug Program.
