Two were arrested this morning after an incident involving a stolen vehicle.

According to Detective Robert Rebello, at approximately 3:25 a.m., Officer Jeremy Dellecese, while traveling west on Old County Road, observed a vehicle traveling east in the area of Drift Road. A query of the vehicle’s registration revealed it was stolen. Officer Dellecese promptly turned his marked cruiser around to effect a motor vehicle stop after requesting backup.

As the vehicle approached Pine Hill Road, Officer Dellecese confirmed the registration belonged to the stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle, without being signaled to stop, turned into a driveway on Old County Road. Officer Dellecese then activated his cruiser’s emergency lights. The operator of the vehicle, later identified as 40-year-old Shaun McGoran of West Warwick, Rhode Island, immediately exited with his hands raised and walked towards the rear of the vehicle. Officer Dellecese ordered McGoran to the ground and he complied with those commands.

Officer Dellecese noticed a passenger in the vehicle and ordered them to show their hands. The passenger, later identified as 24-year-old Samantha Botelho of Fall River, complied. Once Sergeant Bryan McCarthy and Officer Corey Mack arrived as backup, McGoran got up and ran south into the side yard of the home on Old County Road. Officer Dellecese and Sergeant McCarthy were able to catch up to McGoran and place him under arrest.

A search of the vehicle where McGoran was seated revealed several burglarious tools and instruments. These items included lock picking sets, bobby pins, several keys and homemade lock picking devices. Upon questioning, after having been read his Miranda warnings, McGoran stated these items belonged to him. He also stated he had personally made some of these items to pick locks. McGoran also told officers he had stolen the vehicle out of Coventry, Rhode Island.

Officers found, in the area where Botelho was located, miscellaneous drug paraphernalia items including a crack pipe containing residue and empty suspected heroin packets. Inside of a small piece of aluminum foil officers located a white substance they recognized to be crack cocaine.

McGoran was arrested and charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of Burglarious Instruments, Making of Burglarious Instruments, Failure to Stop / Identify Himself to Police and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Botelho was arrested and charged with Possession of Class B Drugs (Crack Cocaine).
