Two arrested concerning shooting outside South Coast Massachusetts convenience store, one had active warrants

New Bedford, MA — Police have made two arrests in connection with a shooting outside of a Brock Avenue convenience store.      

Officers responded to the shooting at around noon on February 15^th.  No injuries were reported; however, a vehicle sustained damage before fleeing the scene. 

As a result of the investigation that followed, Detective Jessica Niccoli secured an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Danielson Varela.  He was located on February 23^rd by patrol officers and taken into custody without incident.  

Varela was charged with firing a gun within 500 feet of a building, assault and battery by firearm, and destruction of property. 

He is currently being held without bail at the Dartmouth House of Correction. 

 A 16-year-old juvenile from Brockton is also under arrest in relation to the same incident. 

The juvenile already had a warrant out of Plymouth County for an open firearm case and is now charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault and battery by firearm, and destruction of property. 

The investigation remains active, and additional suspects are being sought.
