Trash an issue at Fall River waterfront
Residents have often complained about trash around the waterfront. Due to COVID-19 precautions, it may possibly get worse.
State Representative Carole Fiola stated yesterday that she had received messages, calls and photos of excessive trash and locked barrels at Fall River Heritage State Park. After looking into the complaints, Fiola received a notice that due to the coronavirus, barrels are being locked or removed and signage is being placed asking people to take their trash with them during the pandemic for health and safety reasons.
DCR, who is in charge of the barrels, issued the following statement.
“Visitors are reminded that the agency has removed trash receptacles throughout the state parks system to aid in the prevention of spreading COVID-19. DCR asks that all visitors of state parks adhere to a “carry in, carry out” trash policy during this public health emergency, and urges visitors do their part to help protect our shared natural resources by leaving no trace and taking any trash with them.”
“Please do not leave your trash..take it with you at this time.”
Fiola also stated that the visitor’s center is closed and the park will be monitored.
Trash has also been an issue throughout the state concerning masks, gloves, and wipes being left on the ground.
Police have stated that unlawful disposal of trash in Massachusetts can be fined up to $5,500 on the first offense and $15,000 for subsequent offenses.

Thats all the trash from the coffee with Carol Fiola meetings. They say they’re creating jobs by leaving their trash on the ground. Sounds about right for the Riv.
