A Tiverton man was shot by Tiverton Police late last night in response to a domestic dispute call.

According to the office of Tiverton Police Chief Jones, last night, at about 11:30 p.m., Tiverton received a call of a domestic dispute going on at 222 Pelletier Lane. The caller told police the man in the home had a high powered rifle and had threatened his wife with it.

The entire night shift responded. The report of a weapon involved convinced the officers to approach the home with guns drawn.

Tiverton PD have responded to domestic calls at the residence before.

Police allege that 44 year old Scott Banville walked into his doorway with the rifle in his hands. The rifle was a .50 caliber muzzle loader.

Lt. Scott Beaulieu who is an 18 1/2 year veteran of the force, fired twice, hitting Banville twice.

Banville,  his wife and their two children, 6, and 8, were in the home at the time of the shooting.

The Chief’s Office believes the shooting was justified under the circumstances.
