Tiverton man out on domestic violence charges held without bail after new charges, standoff

A local man is facing several charges after a standoff that last several hours.

According to police, on Tuesday, at just before 9:00 p.m., Officers of the Tiverton Police Department were dispatched to the residence of 49-year-old Kriss Farias, located on Bulgarmarsh Road for the initial report of a burglary in progress which was later determined to be a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, Farias’ 39-year-old domestic partner was located outside the residence and was observed to be in distress and sustained recent injuries to the neck and leg. The victim was later transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. 

The victim indicated that following the disturbance, which terminated outside of the residence, Farias retreated into the second-floor apartment and barricaded both entrances. Tiverton Police Officers examined the mentioned entrances and attempted to contact Farias to no avail. Given the manner in which Farias had fortified the residence, it was determined that further resources would be necessary to safely resolve the matter. 

On Wednesday at just after 3:45 a.m., Farias was taken into custody without incident following a standoff that lasted approximately 7 hours. 

Based upon the totality of the circumstances, it was determined that Farias was the primary aggressor in the domestic assault resulting in him being charged with the following offenses: 

• Domestic Assault by Strangulation 

• Domestic Violence – Simple Assault and/or Battery – 1st Offense 

• Domestic Violence – Criminal Violation of No Contact Order – 1st Offense 

• Domestic Violence – Disorderly Conduct 

According to Tiverton Police arrest logs, Farias was also charged with domestic violence offenses in November.

Court records show that at today’s arraignment, Kriss was granted bond at $500 cash with conditions of a Domestic No Contact Order and Pretrial Services to Monitor, however the bond on his previous case was revoked as a bail violator and he is being held without bail.
