Maintainer I – Bristol Community College
STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Performs custodial work for any Bristol campus buildings and grounds.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to the Building Maintenance Supervisor I.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interior Maintenance
• Clean offices, classrooms, restrooms, corridors, elevators, hallways and other specialized spaces.
• Empty and clean recycling containers, waste barrels, and all other waste and trash receptacles.
• Move supplies, furniture and equipment.
• Set up and break down furniture in support of events.
• Clean, wax, and buff all hard surface floors. Shampoo, vacuum and maintain carpets and upholstery.
• Keep simple records, such as maintenance logs or inventory counts.
• May unlock and lock doors.
• Replace electrical lamps.
• Wash windows, woodwork, toilets, lavatories, and fixtures.
• Dust and polish furniture.
• Make simple repairs.
• Clean and maintain all custodial equipment assigned to him/her.
Exterior Maintenance
• Maintain and improve grounds.
• Remove snow and ice.
• Mow grass, weed, water, rake and plant.
• Sweep and clean sidewalks.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Working knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment commonly used in cleaning operations; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to prepare written reports; ability to prepare requests for services and supply orders; physically able to withstand strain of performing manual tasks, including the ability to lift and carry heavy objects; ability to climb and work on ladders and scaffolding; ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. Must also possess a working knowledge of Windows (email) and other types of Facilities software such as SchoolDude (work orders).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Custodial experience in a college or similar educational institution. Bilingual/fluent in a language other than English.
POSITION STATUS:
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, AFSCME, unit-classified position with benefits. The schedule for this position is Monday – Friday 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, with some overtime.
SALARY:
AFSCME Unit II, Grade 9, Step 1 $32,644.56 annually. Appointments from outside the bargaining unit begin at Step 1.
