Teen indicted in murder of local man with Westport and Fall River ties
On November 29, 2021, the Statewide Grand Jury returned an indictment charging 19-year-old Tyrese Poulsen with one count of murder.
According to Newport Police, just after midnight on May 30th, Newport Police responded to an incident in the area of Thames Street and Lee Avenue.
Officers located Maximus Julian suffering from a stab wound to his neck along with another male who suffered a stab wound to his leg.
Both men were ultimately transported to Rhode Island hospital.
Tragically, 22-year-old Maximus Julian succumbed to his injuries and passed away on June 1.
The investigation determined a party had taken place at 548 Thames Street during which a physical fight took place involving Julian and two other men who were identified as Jamaal Reid and Tyrese Poulsen.
As a result of the investigation by the Newport Police Department, an Affidavit and Arrest Warrant was obtained for Poulsen, who is from Newport, for Murder. An Affidavit and Arrest Warrant was obtained for Jamaal Reid for Harboring a Criminal and Disorderly Conduct.
Poulsen is scheduled to be arraigned on December 16, 2021 in Newport County Superior Court.
