Teen ejected, dies from crash on Route 95 that injured juvenile
Scituate, R.I. The Rhode Island State Police report that the operator of a vehicle traveling on Route 95 north in the Town of West Greenwich succumbed to injuries as a result of the accident.
The operator was identified as Gadge Mello, age 19, of Warwick, Rhode Island.
A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2020, the vehicle being allegedly operated by Mello was observed traveling northbound on Route 95 in the Town of West Greenwich when it exited the roadway and struck a tree, ejecting Mello and a juvenile passenger who were not wearing seatbelts. Both Mello and the juvenile passenger were transported to Rhode Island Hospital as a result of their injuries.
On Monday, August 3, 2020, Mello was pronounced deceased by members of the Rhode Island Hospital staff, according to police.
A preliminary investigation revealed that speed appears to be a factor. The accident remains under investigation.
