Taunton woman arrested after crossing into oncoming traffic

A Taunton woman was arrested this morning after being seen driving into oncoming traffic by police.

According to Sgt James Casey, at approximately 1:27 a.m., Casey stopped a white Kia Sportage on Winthrop Street just west of New Street. Prior to being stopped, Sgt. Casey observed the vehicle cross the center line and completely enter the westbound lane of travel. The operator of the vehicle was identified as 29 year old Madeline Bennett of Oak Street in Taunton. During a conversation with Bennett, Sgt. Casey observed signs that Bennett might be impaired due to the over consumption of alcohol.

Ptlm. Nicholas Miranda and Ptlm. Jacob Miranda responded to the scene to assist with the roadside investigation which consisted of field sobriety testing. Following the field sobriety testing, Bennett was taken into custody.

Bennett was transported to the Rehoboth Police Station where she was booked. She was released on personal recognizance and is due to appear in Taunton District Court on at 8:30 a.m. this morning. She was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, operation of a motor vehicle as to endanger, and marked lanes.
