A Taunton Police Officer has lost his battle with the coronavirus.

In a post by John Peterson of TPD, it was confirmed that Officer John Borges had passed away.

“Today we lost a friend and co-worker. Officer John Borges passed away due to Covid 19. Once again in profound sadness the badge of the Taunton Police Department will be shrouded with a black band of mourning and heartache. John was a friend before I joined the department and before either he or I was an officer. We were there for each other through the process of coming out on the job. Thank you John for the friendship, mentorship, support, and countless great memories. Anyone that knew John knew he was larger than life with a heart of gold. Truly someone you could call at 3 am for a ride or to talk with. He gave himself in dedication to his community and country. You will be missed John. Rest easy One-one, we have the watch.”

Borges was on the front lines of the COVID-19 battle and had contracted the virus and was in the hospital fighting a hard and long fight.

Patrolman Borges was a twenty year veteran of the Taunton Police Department, Search Manager for the SEMLEC Search and Rescue Team, a lead trainer for MEMA and active with the Civil Air Patrol.

Condolences from friends and those who knew him have been pouring into social media as a man who was a great officer, father, and friend.
