BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department charged a man with OUI following a motor vehicle accident that took place early Saturday morning on Pleasant Street.

Richard Leonard, 56, of Taunton was charged with OUI Liquor, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Marked Lanes Violation.

Leonard was issued a summons to appear in Brockton District Court to be arraigned at a later date.

At approximately 1:50 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, Bridgewater Police responded to 1085 Pleasant St. after receiving multiple 911 calls for a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival police found two vehicles had collided, with one having rolled onto its roof.

The operator of a 2017 Jeep Wrangler, later identified as Leonard, was found outside his vehicle. A second operator, a 67-year-old woman from Bridgewater, was found trapped in her vehicle, a 2014 Chrysler 200. Firefighters from the Bridgewater Fire Department used hydraulic tools to extricate her from the vehicle.

Both operators were evaluated at the scene by paramedics and were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Bridgewater Police, assisted by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation, determined that Leonard’s vehicle crossed over the center line and crashed into the second vehicle.
