City of Fall River, ACLU of Massachusetts jointly ask supreme court to rule on panhandling

Many Fall River residents continue to voice their frustration over the city’s panhandlers. Without the suit against the city being settled, however, no action can be taken. Today, both sides in the suit came together to get a ruling.

The ACLU of Massachusetts and the City of Fall River jointly asked today that the state supreme court transfer the case to itself to decide the constitutionality of panhandling restrictions in Massachusetts. Both sides are looking for clarification on the free speech rights that are being argued in the case by the ACLU.
