Swansea veteran looking for cards for 102nd birthday passes away
A local veteran that captured the hearts of those in the Fall River area and beyond has died.
Joseph Bucko turned 102 on March 20th and passed away on Friday, according to his daughter JoAnn Bucko Frizado.
Earlier this year, JoAnn put out a request on social media that captured our attention and the eye of other news outlets. Her father Joseph was turning 102 and she was hoping that the public would reach out and send him 102 birthday cards. One for each year he was alive on this earth.
The response well surpassed JoAnn’s hopes.
When all was said and done, the World War II Navy Veteran received over 2,000 cards. Some from as far away as California.
Joseph intently enjoyed each card he received using a magnifying glass to read each word.
The elder Bucko stated that he felt important after receiving his many cards. Mr. Bucko, your service to our country and the community made you important long before we expressed our thanks through birthday cards. Rest in peace sir.
