Swansea Police arrest two in separate unrelated breaking and entering incidents in two-day span

SWANSEA — Chief Marc Haslam reports that the Swansea Police Department arrested two suspects in unrelated breaking and entering incidents in two days.

On August 1, at approximately 6:40 a.m., Swansea Police officers responded to a report of an unknown individual inside a local auto shop.

A preliminary investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Jack McNally of Warren, RI, broke into the shop and took $100 from the register.

Responding officers located a suspicious man walking in the general vicinity of the auto shop who matched a suspect description provided to police.

The suspect, identified as McNally, was detained by Swansea Police.

A further investigation conducted with assistance from Swansea detectives determined McNally was in possession of the cash taken from the shop.

McNally was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering Into a Building and Larceny From a Building.

On August 2, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Swansea Police officers received a report of a potential break-in of a motor vehicle outside a home on Tallawanda Road.

A preliminary investigation determined that a homeowner’s laptop was stolen from his vehicle. Officers were told that the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Ryan Nieves of Warren, RI, was seen running into the neighborhood of Pearse Road.

Officers began to canvas the area, and the Swansea Drone Unit along with the Seekonk Police Department K-9 unit were requested to help locate the suspect and responded to the scene.

A Seekonk Police K-9 unit traced a scent across Route 103, where officers located and detained the suspect, identified as Nieves.

Nieves was discovered to have a laptop that matched the description of the one that had been reported stolen.

A subsequent investigation conducted with assistance from Swansea detectives determined that Nieves had attempted to break into another vehicle but was unsuccessful.

Nieves was also wanted on two unrelated default warrants and was charged with Breaking and Entering Into a Motor Vehicle at Night (Two Counts) and Larceny Over $1,200.

Nieves was arraigned on Tuesday August 2 in Fall River District Court, where he was ordered held on $2,500 cash bail.
