Swansea Planning Board gives go-ahead for development to include Starbucks, Chipotle
A new retail plaza is one step closer to reality in Swansea.
The Swansea Planning Board approved Monday a special permit with conditions including fire department approval for 718 G.A.R. Highway (Route 6), a retail/restaurant development.
The project will feature a Chipotle and Starbucks. An automotive business and bank are also eyed for the property which will be on the side of Dynasty Pool & Spas.
718 G.A.R. LLC addressed safety and traffic concerns by the board after discussion on the project took place at previous meetings.
Board members insinuated that the businesses would likely not be opening at the same time and according to a social media comment by Board member Jonathan Carreiro, ownership estimates it will be a year before the project is complete.
Chipotle specializes in burritos and tacos that are made to order right in front of the customer with locations in North Dartmouth, Raynham, Fall River, Fairhaven and Seekonk.
Coffee chain Starbucks has locations in Fall River, Somerset, Swansea, North Dartmouth, and New Bedford.

More fast food, just what the area needs (sigh).
