Swansea man injured in crash that sets motorcycle, car on fire
A Swansea man was injured on Friday in crash between a motorcycle and car.
According to Norton Police, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Norton Police and Fire Departments responded to Mansfield Avenue in front of Cumberland Farms for a motor vehicle crash. The operator of a Honda Civic was attempting to make a left turn out of Cumberland Farms when a motorcycle traveling south on Mansfield Avenue struck the driver side of the Honda. The motorcycle caught fire immediately upon impact. The motorcycle and the car were both fully involved in flames shortly after. The two occupants in the Honda were able to exit the vehicle without injury. The motorcycle operator, a 57 year old male from Swansea, was thrown over the hood of the car upon impact and was dragged away from the fire by witnesses. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The passengers in the other vehicle were not transported.
Charges have not been filed at this time, however the crash remains under investigation. That area of Mansfield Avenue (Route 140) was closed temporarily while crews worked the scene.
No further information is available at this time.
