Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Framingham Chief of Police Lester Baker have confirmed that a Massachusetts man was arraigned Tuesday in connection with allegations that he struck and killed a pedestrian in Framingham.
Monday night at approximately 10:30 p.m., 44-year-old Ronei DeOliveira of Framingham was allegedly operating his pickup truck on Hollis Street when he allegedly struck the victim, identified as 62-year-old Philip Bligh of Framingham.
Following the crash, DeOliveira allegedly fled the scene on foot. The victim was transported to Newton Wellesley Hospital where he later died.
Framingham Police responded to the scene and spoke to witnesses who reported seeing the crash and DeOliveira leaving the scene. While still on scene, officers were able to locate the defendant who had returned to the area and allegedly smelled of alcohol.
DeOliveira was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of personal injury or death.
At his arraignment in Framingham District Court, bail was set at $250,000 and he was ordered to submit to GPS monitoring, not to consume alcohol and to surrender his passport. The next court date scheduled in this case is September 30th.
