Suspect identified and charged in Attleboro officer involved shooting
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office has released more information in this morning’s officer involved shooting in Attleboro.
The defendant involved in this morning’s police-involved shooting in Attleboro has been identified as Eric Lindsey, 41, of Coventry, RI.
The defendant is being formally charged this afternoon with two counts of firearm-armed assault to murder, four counts of attempted assault and battery with a firearm, four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, three counts of possessing a large capacity feeding device, and one count each of Breaking and Entering, unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying an illegal firearm and carrying a loaded illegal firearm.
The defendant is recovering at Rhode Island Hospital from wounds sustained during the incident, and a specific arraignment date in Attleboro District Court has yet to be set.
The two officers involved in the incident were briefly taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, and have since been released.
The investigation into all the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident is active and ongoing. No further information can be released prior to the defendant’s arraignment in open court.
District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III issued the following statement: “By the grace of god, the officers were not seriously injured or killed. This case highlights the dangers officers face on a daily basis while responding to calls. I commend them for their professionalism in their response to a most dangerous and potentially fatal situation.”
