Suspect charged in murder of Westport woman
Police have arrested a woman who allegedly murdered a Westport woman.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, at approximately 12:01 a.m., on March 16th, Amber Mello, 55, of Westport, was intentionally struck by a gray Hyundai Sonata. The vehicle and driver fled the scene and Mello was pronounced dead at the scene. Through an investigation, the incident was classified as a homicide.
Mello was vacationing in town and was trying to break up a fight when the suspect allegedly backed up the Sonata and intentionally hit her.
Police had released images of a woman of interest and the suspect vehicle shortly after the incident.
Asrielle N. Wise, 25, was arrested on Wednesday and booked Thursday morning for the murder of Mello. In addition to second-degree murder, Wise was also charged with obstruction of justice.
Wise is currently being held at the Orleans Justice Center on $200,000 bond on the second-degree murder charge and $5,000 bond on the obstruction of justice charge.
