Superintendent Malone refutes rumor of guaranteed Fall River school closure
Superintendent Matthew Malone addressed a rumor late this morning that Fall River schools were closing on November 4th.
Due to an uptick in COVID-19 cases, a rumor has spread on social media concerning a closure.
Malone issued the following statement on the rumor through social media.
“Rumor Control: We have a regularly scheduled no student Professional Development Day on 11/3 (Election Day) & then our normal weekly remote learning day on 11/4. At this time we have no plan to go full remote, but we are monitoring the COVID-19 spread & other internal data points.”
It is expected that the Massachusetts Department of Public Health will announce Thursday that Fall River is in the red for a third consecutive week.
The state can pull back on the city opening, after COVID-19 restrictions were eased, if Fall River is in the red for a third week.
Malone had previously stated that he would re-address the status of the hybrid model if the City of Fall River had a fourth straight week in the red which would be next week if case trends continue.
