A Sunday afternoon fire has displaced a Fall River resident and her pets.

A call came in shortly before 2:00 p.m. for a mobile home structure fire at 84 East King road near the Tiverton and Fall River line.

According to Fall River District Fire Chief Michael Clark, upon arrival the home was heavily involved.

Prior to the arrival of the Tiverton and Fall River Fire Departments, the stove at the residence began sparking. According to neighbors, a circuit breaker outside began popping. As the rear of the stove was on fire, a neighbor came over to assist the homeowner by putting a blanket on the fire. The blanket, however, didn’t suppress the flames.

Clark stated that the female resident got out safely along with her seven cats. The pets gradually came back home after the fire took place.

Due to their being no fire hydrants in the area, a tanker from Little Compton was brought in to fight the fire.

Clark estimated the damage at approximately $80,000.

The Red Cross was on scene to help the victim and the cats were being gathered for transport due to the fire displacing them and the female resident.
