A Massachusetts man is facing several charges after a multi-state pursuit with a child in the vehicle.

The vehicle was described as a black Jeep Grand Cherokee and was being operated by 40-year-old Seth Parenteau from Southbridge.

Troopers observed the vehicle on Route 95 South in the City of Providence and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop. The suspect vehicle fled southbound, at one point entering Connecticut before re-entering into Rhode Island. Troopers were able to stop the vehicle on Church Street in the Town of Richmond without incident.

Parenteau was placed into custody, evaluated at Westerly Hospital, and later transported to State Police Headquarters. He was arraigned in front of a Justice of the Peace on the following charges: Eluding, Reckless Driving, Child Endangerment, Obstruction. He was held on $6,000 surety bail and is currently at the ACI. Parenteau has a bail review hearing scheduled at Fourth District Court on Tuesday.

The juvenile was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for an evaluation before being released to a representative from the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.

According to multiple reports, the child was Parenteau’s 15-year-old son, who is handicapped. Parenteau was allegedly making concerning comments regarding the health of the juvenile.
