The members of St. Anne’s Parish are beginning the huge task of raising millions of dollars to save their historic church.

According to St. Anne’s Church committee member Richie Affonso, the parish is first taking pledges to get an idea of how much money can be raised before they determine their full fundraising strategy. “At the moment we are taking pledges. Just names and how much they would be willing to donate. We will bring the pledges to the table in June. Then we will take the fundraising into full swing. We want to see how much we can put together before we reach for the stars.”

Despite the big task ahead of them, Affonso is trying to stay positive. “The goal is $13.5 million, but we could get back up stairs with $5 million. That would take care of the immediate danger. It wouldn’t bring it to its former glory, but it would get the doors open. This is a huge task. I am trying to remain optimistic.”

If you are interested in making a pledge, there will be pledge sheets at the church or you can contact Richie at Richieaffonso3@gmail.com to get your pledge in. “Name phone number and commitment. No money now. When the fundraising kicks off they will be called and asked to commit to their pledge.”

Coming up with millions of dollars won’t be easy, but with the determination of Fall River residents, I wouldn’t put it past them.

You need to think out of the box if you want to raise that much money. You need to contact as many older parishioners still alive. You might be surprised to witness how much money someone might have and no one to leave it to. You need to contact as many French organizations, foundations etc. Historic landmark group, Catholic organizations, knights of Columbus, members of Malta, probably many others
