BOSTON – Southern New England is expecting to get hit with a powerful storm with damaging winds, varying degrees of snowfall, and possible flooding this week.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for much of the area due to a nor’easter headed our way.

Heavy snow is possible. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are possible for portions of northern Connecticut, central, eastern and northeastern Massachusetts and northern Rhode Island from Monday evening through Wednesday morning.

Areas north and west in the higher elevations could see up to 2 feet of snow.

Travel could be difficult. Heavy wet snow combined with gusty winds could bring down tree branches and result in power outages.

Rain on Monday is expected to change to snow on Tuesday with snow continuing into Tuesday night. Snowfall and impacts will likely vary greatly with elevation.

Minor coastal flooding and beach erosion is also a concern.
