Somerset Police offering incentive for children to bike safely
Somerset Police are giving children a reward for being smart bicycle riders.
According to Somerset Police, many children are not wearing bicycle helmets when riding their bikes or as passengers. SPD would like to remind the public that any person 16 years of age or younger operating a bicycle or being carried as a passenger on a bicycle on a public way, bicycle path or on any other public right-of-way shall wear a helmet. The helmet should fit the person’s head and shall be secured to the person’s head by straps while the bicycle is being operated.
With the assistance of Selectman Holly McNamara and the generosity of resident Paul Ferraro and Somerset Creamery, Somerset Police were able to secure a bunch of $5 gift certificates to Somerset Creamery. Somerset Police Officers will be giving these certificates out to any children seen wearing their helmets while driving their bikes.
