Somerset Police issue notice on gas flaring

According to Somerset Police, Enbridge will be conducting an inspection of its natural gas pipeline system as part of its continuous commitment to safe operations mandated by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s safety and maintenance regulations.

In order to properly inspect this portion of the Algonquin system, the inspection requires diversion of natural gas through a designed flare system.

The flaring will be located on property at the Brayton Point Power Plant in Somerset and may be visible for a distance. The work will begin on Wednesday, July 25th and is expected to be completed by Wednesday, July 25th.

Natural gas flaring is a safe procedure that will be conducted in accordance with applicable regulations. There will be no danger to persons or property in the area.

Enbridge representatives will be at the site to closely monitor and manage the flaring. Personnel and equipment will remain until all planned activities are completed.

During the activities, if people in the vicinity see the flare, hear the noise or smell the odorant in natural gas, there should be no cause for alarm.
