Somerset officer will not be charged in fatal crash

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office has revealed that they will not be charging a Somerset officer involved in a crash that claimed the life of 20 year old Hailey Allard in August of 2018.

According to Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, charges are not warranted in the incident.

“Our office, along with the Massachusetts State Police, has fully investigated this matter. We have determined that no charges are warranted in this case. We met with the Allard family to review the case, and discuss our findings and conclusions with them. During our meeting with the family, they told us they understood the basis of our decision that charges are not appropriate in the tragic death of their daughter. Additionally, we have spoken with the Chief of the Somerset Police Department regarding this tragic incident to inform him of the outcome of the investigation. Our office has recommended to the chief that his department review its policies and procedures regarding police responses to calls for service.”

Officer Jonathan Neveu began his career as a reserve in October of 2012. He was made a full-time officer in January of 2016.

The investigation into the crash revealed that Officer Neveu was traveling south on Route 138 (Riverside Avenue) responding to a call when Allard was travelling northbound on Riverside Avenue and was approaching a left hand turn at the intersection with Westhill Avenue when the crash occurred.
