Somerset man threatens to blow up Fall River Dunkin’ over butter pecan coffee

A disgruntled customer allegedly threatened to blow up a Fall River Dunkin’ yesterday.

According to Sergeant Joseph Galvao, at 4:35 p.m., Fall River Police units responded to the Dunkin’ at 15 Robeson Street, regarding a bomb threat. A Dunkin’ clerk called 911 to report a man who had called the business and threatened to blow up the store.

Several uniformed patrol officers, including a K-9 unit, responded to the area and shut down the intersection of Robeson Street and Bedford Street. Employees from Dunkin’ had evacuated the business and a command post was established across the street, at another business, according to Galvao.

Fall River Police Officers along with a Fall River Police K-9 unit, inspected the exterior and interior of the Dunkin’ and determined that there were no devices or suspicious packages on the premises. The area was locked down for approximately 30 minutes.

Investigating Officers Michael Perreira and Kenneth Medeiros conducted their investigation and learned Justin Furtado, 26, of 117 Ranger Road, Somerset, had called the business inquiring if they were selling butter pecan coffee. According to the clerk, Furtado became upset and threatened to “blow up” the business after learning it was not being sold.

Due to Officer Perreira and Officer Medeiros’ investigation, a temporary arrest warrant was granted for Furtado. With the assistance of Somerset Police, Furtado was located and arrested at his residence and charged with several offenses including Bomb Threat, Disturbing the Peace, Disorderly Conduct, and Threat to Commit a Crime.

Furtado was transported to the Fall River Police Department where he was booked and processed.
