Somerset home likely total loss as blaze sends one to the hospital
A fire just days away from Christmas has destroyed a local home and sent a resident to the hospital.
According to Somerset Fire, at 6:44 p.m., the Somerset Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 109 Gertrude Street where multiple calls were received.
Somerset Police first responded to the scene and reported a fully involved structure.
Upon the arrival of SFD, crews found a well involved structure fire that was self-vented. Crews began working on the exterior of the home to extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control which allowed for interior operations for overhaul and extinguishment of hot spots.
Unfortunately, the house is most likely a total loss, according to officials.
One resident was transported a local hospital for smoke inhalation.
While it is believed that the fire may have been caused by a Christmas tree, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
