Chief Christopher D. Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department has arrested and charged a man following an investigation into a physical altercation.

On Tuesday, March 8, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Bridgewater Police responded to the Circle K gas station, 1385 Pleasant St., for a report of a fight between two males outside the store in the parking lot.

Responding officers were able to separate the individuals. Both men were evaluated by paramedics from the Bridgewater Fire Department, then transported to area hospitals.

Investigating officers and detectives obtained witness statements and surveillance video from the store. Through the subsequent investigation, it was determined that one male, later identified as 30-year-old Allen Ellis of Halifax, allegedly brandished a knife and stabbed the victim during the altercation. ELLIS also allegedly attempted to strangle the victim.

The investigation determined that the altercation had stemmed from previous social media posts made by both individuals.

Ellis was arrested on March 8 and was transported to the Bridgewater Police Station for booking following his release from the hospital.

He was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault and Battery, and Strangulation.

Ellis was arraigned in Brockton District Court on Wednesday, March 9.

The incident remains under investigation by Officer Ryan Thayer and Det. Kevin Kearns and additional charges are possible.
