Incumbent Allen Smith delivered a resounding win last night in Somerset, earning more than 60% of the vote to beat former Selectwoman Holly McNamara for another three years on the Board of Selectman.

Smith earned 2,039 votes with McNamara totaling 1,287 votes. Precinct breakdowns are as follows:

  • Precinct One: Smith 395 McNamara 325
  • Precinct Two: Smith 401 McNamara 252
  • Precinct Three: Smith 400 McNamara 288
  • Precinct Four: Smith 384 McNamara 222
  • Precinct Five: Smith 453 McNamara 195

Smith shared a message to residents on his campaign Facebook page last night:

The embattled McNamara failed to convince voters she deserved a second chance after she resigned two years into her three-year term back in 2021. McNamara, who was endorsed by current Board of Selectman Chair Jamison Souza, shared her platform for the town to get “Back on Track” with voters but it failed to resonate at the polls. Personal financial woes that she attributed to employment that ended without warning and her interaction with a voter back in March where she called them an “asshole” drowned out her message of the need for economic growth in the town.

McNamara’s campaign page shared the following message to voters after last night’s loss:

Smith renews his seat for another three years and will rejoin existing Selectmen Jamison Souza and Jacob Vaught for at least another year when Vaught is up for re-election. No word on Vaught’s intentions to run again.

I’ve never seen a more classless concession message than Holly’s. Somerset truly dodged a bullet by voting to keep her OUT of office. I still hold my opinion that though I think she is the worst politician I’ve ever seen, I wish her no ill will and genuinely hope she moves on with her life.
