By all accounts, Fall River Police organized a successful Guns for Groceries event Saturday at Blessed Trinity Church.

According to Father Rob Nemkovich, 53 unwanted guns, boxes of ammunition, and several knives were taken off the streets, as well as numerous gun locks given out at 1340 Plymouth Avenue.

“Thanks to our FRPD and our numerous sponsors for allowing this effort to happen in memory of Rev. Dr. Robert Lawrence who began the program in 1995 after the killing of FRPD Officer Thomas Giunta.”

Father Nemkovich stated that Mayor Paul Coogan and Bristol County DA Tom Quinn stopped by the event to thank those who were helping make the community safer.

After the event, Special Ops officers helped Father get the Turkeys out of the freezer for the Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner.

Blessed Trinity will be serving a Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner free of charge to the first 125 people who come through their doors. This is being provided to help those in need or those alone in our Fall River community on Thanksgiving Day. The turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be served at 12:00 noon with doors opening at 11:30 AM. Reservations are not necessary.

” According to Father Rob Nemkovich, 53 unwanted guns, boxes of ammunition, and several knives were taken off the streets ”

This implies they were on the streets i.e. used by criminals in crimes. I would venture all of these are turned in by law abiding citizens and if not an easy way to confirm these were ” on the streets ” would be the absence of serial numbers. Operating word ” unwanted ”

” Father Nemkovich stated that Mayor Paul Coogan and Bristol County DA Tom Quinn stopped by the event to thank those who were helping make the community safer. ”

Absolute BS the community is no safer with legal guns turned in , The streets are no safer at least be honest. If you truly want to make the streets safer hold the judges accountable for releasing criminals back into society to reoffend. Most criminals have lengthy records and yet somehow keep being released to commit more crimes.
