Several area crews on scene as approximately 1,000 cars on fire at auto salvage yard in Tiverton
Several local crews continue to battle a massive fire that began early Wednesday morning.
Approximately 1,000 crushed cars are on fire at an auto salvage yard on King Road in Tiverton.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., the Tiverton Fire Department responded to General Auto at 384 King Rd for a reported fire. Upon arrival, Engine 3 found multiple cars on fire. It took firefighters several hours to bring this fire under control.
Firefighters are still on scene as of 1:00 p.m. working to fully extinguish the fire.
Little Compton, Portsmouth, Westport, Freetown, Lakeville, Raynham, and Rehoboth are among multiple crews providing mutual aid including transporting tankers full of water.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the RI State Fire Marshal.
