Lakeville firefighters battled a major fire Friday morning.

According to the Lakeville Fire Department, at 2:08 a.m., The Lakeville Police Department received a 911 call reporting a fire at a single family residence located at 111 Main Street.

Lakeville Fire Department responded within minutes and arrived to find heavy fire venting from the home and all occupants safely outside. Responders worked quickly to deploy a handline to attack the fire and establish a water supply.

Responding Lakeville Fire Apparatus included: Engines 1, 3, and 4. Tower Ladder 1, Tanker 1, Car 1, and Car 3.

Due to the volume of fire and the need to shuttle water, a second alarm was declared early in the incident; with additional tankers assigned. Mutual aid manpower and apparatus was provided to Lakeville from Berkley, Freetown, Middleboro, and Raynham fire departments.

Massachusetts Department of Fire Services provided rehab support to the firefighters and investigative assistance through the deployment of fire investigators.

Lakeville Police Department provided protection from motor vehicle traffic and investigative assistance.

Chief Michael O’Brien expressed his gratitude to the many agencies who came together to battle the fire. “The cooperation and coordination among agencies was outstanding and speaks to the responder’s professionalism”. The Chief was particularly impressed with the operations of our Lakeville Firefighters: “This was my first opportunity to see these men and woman in action; this was a difficult fire to extinguish due to the construction type and the age of the home. Firefighters made multiple trips into the structure to fight the fire; having to change out SCBA bottles multiple times. They did not let up all morning.”

The last units cleared the scene at approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious. There were no injuries reported to residents or responders.
