Seekonk Police looking for public’s help in fatal hit and run

Seekonk Police are investigating a fatal hit and run and are looking for the public’s help.

According to Seekonk Police, on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at approximately 6:54 p.m., the Seekonk Communication Center received several 911 calls related to a pedestrian struck on Newman Ave (Rt. 152) in the area of #893. Dispatchers were informed that a person had been struck and that the striking vehicle had fled the scene, continuing northbound on Newman Ave (Rt. 152). Seekonk Police, along with Seekonk Fire/Rescue, were dispatched and arrived a short time later. At the scene, a 37-year-old woman was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Officers on the scene quickly gathered information and were able to identify the striking vehicle as a light-colored SUV. possibly a Jeep Grand Cherokee, between the years of 1999-2004. The vehicle should have front passenger side damage.

The Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying who is responsible for this tragic crash. Anyone having infomation is asked to contact the Seekonk Police Department at 508-336-8123.

Detectives from the Seckonk Police Department, in conjunction with MA State Police Troopers assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, are currently investigating this incident.
