Seekonk officer injured; man arrested after fighting officers with machete-like knife

A police officer was injured after an armed man fought with police in Seekonk.

According to Captain Matthew Jardine, on Tuesday, just after 9:30 p.m., multiple police units were dispatched to a tow yard in the south end of town for a reported breaking and entering in progress.

Upon arrival, officers found a man matching the description of the suspect. It was immediately observed that the man was armed with a large, machete-like knife, which was attached to his waistband. Officers gave verbal commands to the suspect, and he initially appeared to be compliant.

Once officers made contact with 28-year-old Eric Wein of Mansfield, he started resisting and physically fighting with the officers. During the altercation, one of the officers sustained injuries from the suspect’s edged weapon. The officer was transported to a medical facility, via rescue, with non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

Wein was charged with Attempted B&E, Possession of Burglarious Instrument, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying Dangerous Weapon, and Resisting Arrest.

Wein was arraigned on the charges in Taunton District Court on Wednesday
