RI woman arrested, released, after three dogs die in hot vehicle

Police arrested a local woman after three dogs died this afternoon.

According to police, Sunday at approximately 4:00 PM, Jamestown Police officers responded to McQuades Market Place for the report of three dogs found to be unresponsive inside of a vehicle. The officers and bystanders along with members of the Jamestown Fire Department attempted to revive the three dogs and transported them to Newport Animal Hospital. All three dogs were determined to be deceased.

Upon investigation, officers determined that the owner of the dogs had left them unattended in the vehicle for an extended period of time. It appears that the air conditioning in the vehicle was not working and the windows in the vehicle were rolled up. The dogs were left without any water in the vehicle.

The dogs are described as: 4 year old black lab, 7 month old black lab and a 4 year old gray keeshond

The owner of the dogs, Ann Garnett, 65, of Jamestown was charged with three counts of Unnecessary Cruelty to an Animal, a felony carrying a potential penalty of five years in prison and $1,000 fine for each count; and three counts of Confinement of an animal in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.

Garnett was arraigned at Jamestown Police Headquarters and released.
