Massachusetts State Police arrested a Rhode Island man at Logan Airport last night after he assaulted a trooper, sprayed a liquid on the trooper, and spit in his face.
KEVIN LUCZAK, 28, of Narragansett, was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, assault with a dangerous weapon, and resisting arrest.
At approximately 11 p.m., State Police were notified that a Delta supervisor was responding to a gate in Terminal A for a reported incident involving a man on an inbound flight. A short time later, the man, later identified as LUCZAK, walked into the baggage office to make a claim about a lost bag. The Delta supervisor was also present and pointed out LUCZAK to a nearby Trooper as the man the flight crew had notified the supervisor about. LUCZAK then walked out of the baggage office toward the Trooper and sprayed an unknown liquid solution in his face.
The Trooper then attempted to arrest LUCZAK, who resisted and began to punch the Trooper. During the ensuing struggle, the Trooper and the suspect went to the floor in the area of the baggage carousel. LUCZAK continued to assault the Trooper, punching him and spitting on him on twice. LUCZAK then broke free and ran toward the information booth. The Trooper pursued the suspect and, with the assistance of other Troopers, subdued and handcuffed him. The suspect was later treated by Boston EMS for a bloody nose he received while he was fighting to avoid arrest.
LUCZAK was booked at the State Police-Logan Airport Barracks. A bail commissioner set bail at $1,000.
The Trooper suffered injuries to his face, hand and knees. He was checked by EMS but refused transport to a hospital.
LUCKZAK was arraigned today in East Boston District Court.
