Rhode Island women found panhandling in Massachusetts accused of significant theft at Stop & Shop

Massachusetts detectives have arrested two individuals accused of a past shoplifting incident.
According to police, on March 22, 2025, Weymouth Police responded to a report of a past shoplifting at the Stop and Shop supermarket located at 700 Middle Street. Officers learned from Loss Prevention personnel that two women had stolen a significant quantity of Health and Beauty Care products, amounting to $1,582.57. The suspects exited the store without paying and fled in a silver minivan.
Surveillance footage was obtained, and a bulletin was disseminated to local law enforcement for assistance in identifying the suspects. Further investigation led to their identification by a Brockton Police detective.
On March 31, 2025, the Brockton detective located the suspects while they were panhandling.
After further questioning, both women were arrested for the larceny committed in Weymouth on March 19, 2025.
The suspects were identified as Maria Misclescu and Iasmina Sanatescu, who were subsequently transported to the Weymouth Police Department.
Misclescu and Sanatescu, both of Providence, RI, were charged with Larceny Over $1200 (Stop & Shop) and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny.
Misclescu and Sanatescu were released on bail. Both were arraigned at Quincy District Court on April 1st.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as more information arises regarding other similar thefts.
