Rhode Island man wanted by police for allegedly abandoning dog in freezing temperatures

A Rhode Island man is wanted by police for allegedly abandoning a dog in freezing temperatures.

According to police, on Wednesday, a Rhode Island District Court arrest warrant was issued for Richard Lombardi of Cranston, RI in relation to the recent abandonment of a canine on Nipmuc Road.

The investigation, completed in cooperation with Providence Animal Control, Cranston Animal Control, and the RI Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, was able to determine that Lombardi was the owner of the canine, a 7-year-old pit bull mix named ‘Clyde’.

Each of the agencies had documented contact with Lombardi as a result of their own investigations, each of which has occurred within the last several months.

When ‘Clyde’ was dropped on the side of Nipmuc Road, temperatures were below freezing and, since ‘Clyde’ was locked in an animal carrier, he was unable to seek shelter against the elements.

Fortunately, this nighttime abandonment of ‘Clyde’ was witnessed by a local neighbor, who immediately provided care for the animal and called police.
