Rhode Island man held on bail after being accused of fatally injuring man in hit-and-run pedestrian crash
A Rhode Island man is being accused of hitting a man with his vehicle and leaving the scene.
According to police, on Thursday at 6:15 p.m., Woonsocket Police Night Platoon responded to the area of 480 Diamond Hill Road for a 911 call of a hit and run involving a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers located a 71-year-old victim who was critically injured.
At approximately 8:45 p.m. the driver, 30-year-old Jared Travers, responded to the Woonsocket Police Department and was subsequently charged with Duty to Stop in accident resulting in serious injury and duty to render assistance.
The victim has since died, according to multiple reports.
Travers was arraigned Friday in 6th District Court and was held on $10,000 surety bail, according to ABC6. He was transported to the Adult Correctional Institution.
Charges are expected to be upgraded.
