Reward offered in case of Plymouth Rock vandalism
A reward has been offered surrounding the vandalism of Plymouth Rock and several other historical locations.
Yesterday, State Senate Candidate Jay McMahon announced he is offering a $500 reward to anyone who helps police capture and prosecute those responsible for vandalizing Plymouth Rock, the Monument to the Forefathers, and other sacred historical sites.
On Monday, the Town gave an update on what had been vandalized and what had been cleaned of graffiti in addition to Plymouth Rock.
“The DCR Forefather’s Monument and flooring of the Half Shell Band Stand have been cleaned – with the hard work of volunteer Jake Mowles of East Coast Power Washing.”
“The four scallop shells have been cleaned by our Dept. of Public Works staff and may need a little more love in a few spots, but they look beautiful again. Well done DPW and thank you.”
“In addition, Public Works employees tackled the graffiti removal at the Bench at Brewster Gardens presented to the Town by the National Society Daughters of the American Colonists – 1923 in remembrance of those daughters of the American colonists who came to Plymouth in the ship Anne in 1623. This cleaning involved some final specific removal of paint that seeped into the stone by volunteer Jake Mowles.”
“DPW crews also cleaned the Pilgrim Maiden Statue in Brewster Gardens and then Jake did test spots where he wants to return later with a different chemical solution.”
If you have any information on the incident, contact Plymouth Police.
