According to a new report, if you are a woman, Massachusetts is the place to be.

Massachusetts was ranked #1 in a report released today by WalletHub. The bay state ranked well in several categories.

In order to identify the best and worst states for women, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across two key dimensions, “Women’s Economic & Social Well-Being” and “Women’s Health & Safety.”

WalletHub examined those dimensions using 24 relevant metrics, including earnings, unemployment, doctor visit cost, healthcare, depression, suicide, and homicide. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the most favorable conditions for women.

WalletHub then determined each state and the District’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order our sample.

Massachusetts ranked #1 overall for health and safety and came in fifth for economic and social well-being. Inside those dimensions, the state ranked #1 for lowest uninsured rate, fifth in life expectancy from birth, and second in lowest female homicide rate.

Rhode Island ranked ninth overall, while Connecticut came in eighth.
