Repairs coming to William S Canning Boulevard in Fall River
The drive on William S Canning Boulevard is about to get much smoother soon.
According to representatives, Mayor Jasiel Correia II ,State Representative Alan Silvia, and Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development Secretary Jay Ash announced this afternoon that the city has been awarded a $2.5 million MassWorks Infrastructure Program grant. The MassWorks grant provides money to commonwealth cities and towns seeking funding for infrastructure to spur economic development and job creation. The road project will start from the current main entrance to the SouthCoast Marketplace north to Tucker Street, near Rhode Island Avenue and will include the reconstruction of Canning Boulevard, reconfigured traffic signals, replacement of approximately 70 percent of the sidewalks. The project will start on Nov. 1, according to Correia, followed by permitting, design and construction with a completion date set for June 30, 2018.
