Red Sox legends to volunteer at B.M.C. Durfee High School to combat student hunger in Fall River
Quincy, MA/Fall River, MA – Stop & Shop and Unilever have announced a special donation to Fall River Public Schools to celebrate Unilever joining the Stop & Shop School Food Pantry Program to help ensure no child has to go to school hungry. As a premier partner in the program, Unilever has pledged to donate $175,000 annually to help Stop & Shop establish more in-school pantries across the Northeast, while also supporting the existing school partners by providing an additional $250,000 donation of food and personal care items like Suave Body Wash, Degree Deodorant, Axe Body Spray and Body Wash, and Dove products. Fall River Public Schools will be the first recipient of those donations.
Stop & Shop and Unilever will be joined by Red Sox Legends, Manny Delcarmen and Sam Horn, in a volunteer effort to pack over 575 cases of Knorr pasta and rice, Suave body wash and deodorant on Wednesday, November 2 at 1:30 p.m. at B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River. Durfee High School serves as the hub for the Stop & Shop School Food Pantry in Fall River and is where food is stored, packed, and distributed for students in need across the entire 16-school district on a monthly basis. The effort will result in nearly 150 bags of grocery staples and personal care items for students in need.
“We created the Stop & Shop School Food Pantry Program to limit the barriers that can impact a student’s ability to succeed and to make sure kids have consistent access to food and personal care items. Fall River was proudly our first school partner in this effort,” said Jennifer Brogan, Director of Community Relations for Stop & Shop. “We’re also incredibly grateful for the generosity of Unilever and their work to amplify our efforts to help more students across Massachusetts and the Northeast.”
Launched in 2019 with Fall River Public Schools as the very first partner, the Stop & Shop School Food Pantry Program works directly with schools to establish and support food pantries to ensure that kids don’t have to go to school hungry. Stop & Shop supports 150 in-school pantries thus far in the City of Boston, Lynn, Fall River, and communities across New England. Earlier this year, Stop & Shop and the Boston Red Sox announced teaming up a multi-year campaign to Strike Out School Hunger, with a pledge to donate 10,000,000 meals to students who are facing food insecurity. For each Red Sox strikeout during regular season home games, Stop & Shop, now the Official Grocery Store of the Red Sox, will donate 10,000 meals to support the Stop & Shop School Food Pantry Program
“Unilever’s Knorr brand believes that wholesome, nutritious food should be accessible and affordable to all,” said Christina DiPietro, Unilever Team Lead. “We are proud to partner with Stop & Shop’s School Food Pantry Program to not only help eliminate hunger but to also give personal care products to kids in the community. We are happy to provide this level of support.”
