Rainbow cake once again causing praise, complaints; available at four Bristol County spots

A vanilla flavored cake continues to cause strong opinions in Bristol County.

The Old Grist Mill Tavern at 390 Fall River Avenue in Seekonk, The Tipsy Toboggan at 75 Ferry Street Fall River, Canned Heat Craft Beer also on Ferry Street in Fall River, and the Fall River Carousel (all owned by Red Oak Hospitality), took to social media Monday to announce the return of the rainbow pride cake to celebrate love and diversity the entire month of June for the fourth year in a row.

The cake contains vanilla cream frosting and pearled vanilla candy whipped cream.

The limited-time menu item continues to sell like hot cakes while also causing complaints.

Negative opinions expressed have been along the lines of threats to never eat at one of the restaurants again, to assertions that one of the restaurants will go broke for being “woke” referencing how businesses such as Target and Anheuser Busch have seen previous backlash for campaigns in support of “pride”.

The last three years the comments appear to be more positive than they were when the cake initially debuted.

While the cake has caused detractors, it appears the dessert is far more lucrative than the small amount of business the eatery may lose. The menu item has caused the restaurants to be full of customers at times, ordering the cake in support of the move. Some of those customers traveling an hour or more.

The cake will be available for the whole month while supplies last.
