Rain has dampened the opening of a local playground but don’t worry, it is coming, and soon.

According to Swansea Town Administrator Mallory Aronstein, the new updated playground at 347 GAR Highway (across from Joseph Case High School) should be open in the next few days as locals patiently wait to put the new work to good use.

“The rain has delayed us a bit. They should be finishing up early next week. The Parks and Rec Commission was supposed to select a ribbon cutting date, but I doubt we will close the playground to wait for that. It’s so beautiful, it’s hard to resist the temptation to play! So, I’m hopeful we’ll be able to open it up for use after they finish up fine points around the playground next week.”

The playground is mostly made of wood which should be kinder on young legs in the summer heat. The structures are also built on turf which will make it more accessible. There is even a sign language sign to help children in communication.

In addition to the new playground, in mid-July, work started on redoing basketball and tennis courts.
