According to the National Weather Service, our area is in for some heavy rain as all of Southern New England is in a Flood Watch from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon. The rain, however, will bring with it unseasonably warm temperatures.
As high pressure moves off the eastern seaboard, low pressure and a slow moving cold front will start to affect the region on Thursday.
Winds will shift to south and southwest, bringing mild temperatures to the region. Readings may reach the 50s to near 60 on Friday.
The rain will start to fall Thursday night, then become heavy at times as moisture moves northward from the Gulf and SW Atlantic especially Friday into Saturday, There could be from 2-4 inches of rain before changing back over to mixed freezing rain and sleet Saturday night.
It will also be windy at times as Friday will bring a south wind 16 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.
Due to the snowmelt and possible river ice jams developing on top of the heavy rain, the Flood Watch was issued.
